Getting here

Located at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef, travelling to Woodgate Beach from anywhere in Australia is easy.

Qantas and Alliance Airlines fly into Bundaberg Regional Airport. Flights from Sydney and Brisbane arrive at and depart from Fraser Coast Airport at Hervey Bay, about 1½ hours' drive south of Woodgate Beach. Virgin Australia and Qantas fly into Fraser Coast Airport. Car hire is available from both airports.

ROAD - Woodgate Beach is an easy 4 hour drive north of Brisbane along the Bruce Highway. Take the turn-off at Childers and follow the signs along Goodwood Road and Woodgate Road. If you’re arriving from the north, Woodgate is about 4 hours south of Rockhampton. Turn off the Bruce Highway at Childers then follow the signs along Goodwood Road and Woodgate Road.

Woodgate Beach is an ideal 'half-way' destination for friends and family from Southern and Central Queensland. Woodgate is also a popular destination for many South-Western Queenslanders seeking a 'beach holiday' (and a sea-breeze!) as it is within easy reach of many parts of inland Queensland.

Getting around

Nowhere is very far in Woodgate! The township is approximately 5 kilometres from one end to the other. While there is no public transport, there are walking and cycling tracks (all flat!) to all parts of town and, both the Hotel and Bowls Club run courtesy buses for your convenience.

We have a small shopping precinct located on Frizzells Road on the way in to town; home to our grocery store, boutique, pharmacy and doctor. Along the Esplanade, between 3rd and 4th Avenues, is a small general store, laundromat and Post Office.

Pet friendly

Woodgate Beach loves dogs! Our town provides two expanses of sandy beach for your dog to play off-leash at Theodolite Creek and up to Burrum Point - see map. Dogs are welcome on other areas of the beach and around town on-leash. Our hotel and cafes all offer dog-friendly areas and, our accommodation providers are also very pet-friendly including the caravan park and private holiday rentals - just ask! We also have a local vet and pet groomer if you need them.

Please clean up after your dog and keep your pets secure; do not allow them to chase our wildlife.

Living with wildlife

Woodgate is known for its abundance of wildlife. Drive carefully as  you will see kanagroos, wallabies, echidna and waterbirds wandering, particularly in the early morning and late afternoon. Kangaroos do actually hop down the beach and lounge in our parks and front yards. While it's lovely to get close to nature, please don't feed the wildlife (people food is not recommended) and keep a respectful distance.
